A Place in the Sun

watercolour and coloured pencil in my Moleskine watercolour sketchbook

We've had a little bit of sun here and there and temperatures are slowly rising.  A favourite spot for the cats in the  morning is the big wooden table on the front of the house.  It's a place to sit and get warm and perhaps have a wash too.
Here my cat reminds me a bit of a sphinx in the way he's sitting, what do you think?

I'm making the most of the little sun we have as I will be off to snowy UK tomorrow, the gloves and scarves have had to packed....brrrrr
I'm not sure how often I will be able to get on line so here's wishing you all a happy Easter!

Waiting for the Sun to go Down

You may remember this old man from my sketch a couple of weeks ago.  This was the view he was looking at as the sun went down, illuminating the buildings on the opposite side of the harbour.

I had problems working  large in watercolour, in fact I was so unsatisfied I covered the whole thing in pastel.  I think the main problem is a  difficulty in  painting a watercolour from a photograph  and I'm  more comfortable with a real life subject in front of me!

Is it spring yet where you are?

Waiting for spring to really start so that I can get my plants sorted out.  We've had some strange weather...last weekend it was 23° warm enough for some people to go to the beach.
Two days later it was 4° with snow on the mountains so the woodburner had to go back on!

Little Blue Jar Number 2

Oil  24x18cms

This is the second time that my little blue jar has made an appearance in a painting, could this be a new series?

Freshly Squeezed

.

I hung this strawberry on my favourite piece of handmade string, but I had to pant it over a couple of days due to lack of time.  The poor strawberry was looking very manky towards the end of it's ordeal so I added some squidgy drips at the last minute.

I didn't eat the strawberry.

Open Door

One of my regular sketching spots is the railway station carpark in the nearest town. It's a good  way of passing the time while I wait for one of my family to arrive, making the most of some excellent views of an old 17th century villa.
This is the 'back' door painted from one of my sketches and perhaps a door used once by the servants.  I found it curious that the door was slightly open yet there wasn't anyone about.
